have you ever dug deep down on twitter?
here’s a fun game for a friday where all you’re doing is looking at your computer.
if you click “Follow” while on someone’s twitter page, twitter.com offers you two more profiles to follow. At this point you have some options: you can immediately follow one or both suggestions, you can click through to their profiles, or you can do nothing (shutting your laptop and throwing it into a time machine, sending it back to 1845 with “save the president” spraypainted on the top).
digging in is when you open both profiles in new tabs and then follow them. at this point the game begins anew. clicking “Follow” at this point, now allows twitter to give you two more options of profiles to follow.
I explain all of this, of course, to just talk about my experience.
And here is how it goes:
i followed some cartoonists, which led to me following
some anime fans, which led to me following
transformers fanatics, which led to me following
some pretty intense cosplayers, which led to me following
some pretty intense catlovers, which led to me following
a few knitters, which led to me following
way more knitters, which led to me following
super crazy knitters
at this point, i had to step back a few steps and follow a different “thread” (the knitting profiles have infected my brains with puns beyond all reason. kill me now.)
i went back to the catlovers and found some gamers, also a paleontolgist, which led me to following
robot lovers, which led to me following
doctor who fans, which led to me following
really ridiculous doctor who fans, which led to me following
some weird kind of joke accounts, which led to me following
more terrible and dumb jokes (my favorite kind, btw), which led to me following
ok, i don’t know.
i am now in the land of inside jokes. it’s like darknet for twitter down here… what the hell am i doing here? i don’t belong here?
ok, that was fun. smell ya later.
smell ya later, forever.
